Frequently Asked Questions

This page is going to be a work in progress.  If you have questions you feel are a good choice to add here, feel free to send them to me!

Q: How Much are your puppies?
A: Our puppies are Australian Labradoodles and are $2500.  Our price is consistent with other comparable breeders.  We do not charge by color as we feel temperament and personality are important.  We do feel we offer a quality program and that we give a high value for a puppy with the extra training and socialization and our custom puppy package.

Q: I see Labradoodle Puppies in the paper for $500, why are yours so expensive?
A: We have all grown up with that phrase, "You get what you pay for".   The puppies in the paper are most likely Lab x Poodle crosses.  They are not allergy friendly nor non-low shedding.  They do not look like an Australian Labradoodle and in fact can look very different.   When you are considering a puppy there are many factors to consider.   Are the parents health tested?  Are the parents conformationally sound and a good representation of their breed?  Is the puppy coming with a warranty?  How was the puppy raised?  Is this a business or a back yard breeder?   What vet care is the parents and puppy getting?  Are the puppies registered with a Breed Organization?   Does the puppy come with papers, pedigree, and other puppy raising information?  Will the breeder take the puppy back if something happens and you can't keep it?

These are all things to think about when considering a puppy.   Paying $500 for a puppy that has health issues can result in spending thousands on future vet bills.  We realize that not everyone can afford an expensive puppy or breed but do take the time to learn all you can about the people you are going to get a puppy from.   A puppy is a 10-15 year committment and a new family member.

Also understand what type of Labradoodle you are looking at and making sure it is what you are expecting.  F1 - Lab x Poodle.  F1B - F1 x Poodle   Labradoodle x Labradoodle  Australian Labradoodle x Australian Labradoodle.  The Australian Labradoodle has been in development for over 20 years and has a Breed Standard and is more what you can expect in a Purebred dog in consistency in look, type, and temperament.

Q: Do you discount your puppies?  What about your older puppies?
A: We ask the same price for every puppy.  We feel this is fair especially to families who wait a long time for a puppy or who are paying for the extra training camps.   We have discounted puppies for Service Dog Organizations.   We want families to choose our program because of the quality of puppy we offer and because they believe in that quality and the puppy they are getting.   If we have Older puppies available they have more training, time, care and more of their shots, and have a higher value.    An older puppy can be less stress to get and there is still lots of puppy months ahead.    We will possibly consider payment options for an approved right family to help a family acquire one of our puppies.

Q: Is there a difference between Males and Females?
A: We get asked this all the time.   In some breeds there is a personality and temperament as well as size difference between male and females, but in the Labradoodles that is not something I usually see.   Because of the early spay and neuter the boys do not usually develop the male characteristics they are known for like marking and humping.   Our experience is that males and females both can have the temperaments and personalities that the Labradoodle is known for.   Some differences we see:  Females tend to be more demanding of their affection.  Nosing under your hand to say "Pet me".   As females age we seem to see a bit more reserved attitude.   Males tend to just ooze affection on you and all over you.  They tend to be more goofy and as they age seem to retain a more puppy like attitude.    Boys seem to like toys more.   Intelligence, energy, mellowness, alpha/shyness, those are all temperament issues and can be seen in either a boy or a girl.   This discussion came up on our Breeder's list and surprisingly the boys were preferred.  You can read about that converstion:  Males vs Females a Breeder's Perspective

So saying all that, we do understand that families still have a preference for a male or female.  We try and work with each family to meet that request.  Sometimes it is out of our control and a Mommy Doodle will have very few girls or even none or very few boys.   We have had them all!
